Nigerian music heavyweights Don Jazzy and Shallipopi sent social media into a frenzy on Thursday with surprise cash giveaways, gifting fans millions of naira in an outpouring of generosity that quickly went viral.
It all began with a trending post on X encouraging users to tag a celebrity they wished would gift them ₦1 million. One user, Adeyemi Adejoke Abidemi (@PopoolaJoke4), tagged Don Jazzy, writing, “Make I tag #DONJAZZY. I dey always dream about him. Happy new month sir.”
Don Jazzy promptly responded, asking for her account details. Minutes later, Adeyemi posted a screenshot of a ₦1 million credit alert, gushing, “Jesuuuuuusssssssss, this is huge… Your support means the world to me.”
But Don Jazzy didn’t stop there. After noticing her previous account balance of just ₦67.29, he replied, “That your akant balance is not healthy. I don add another 5 million.” Adeyemi later confirmed the additional ₦5 million transfer—bringing the total to ₦6 million—and offered a heartfelt prayer: “May the Almighty who used you to lift me reward you beyond measure… Thank you #DONJAZZY.”
Amid skepticism about her initial balance, Adeyemi clarified, “None of my accounts get 1 naira… only GTBank get 67 naira.”
Meanwhile, rapper Shallipopi also joined in the spirit of giving. While promoting his album, he tweeted, “Summer is coming, ready your shorts and bikinis…” A fan, Samuel Uchechukwu Ifesinachi, replied that he couldn’t afford a speaker to enjoy the new music. Shallipopi responded, “Imma send u a million if you promise to get yourself a very big JBL.”
True to his word, Shallipopi posted a ₦1 million transaction receipt after the fan shared his details.
The artists’ spontaneous generosity earned widespread praise, with many lauding their commitment to uplifting fans in meaningful ways.
