Popular Nigerian social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.
The arrest reportedly occurred at a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch following VDM’s public criticism of the bank over alleged unauthorised deductions from his mother’s account.
Human rights lawyer and activist Barrister Deji Adeyanju confirmed the incident in a statement to The Guardian on Friday. According to Adeyanju, VDM was apprehended by police officers at Area 3 in Abuja, alongside a friend identified as C Park. His mother, who was with them at the time, was not detained.
Condemning the arrest, Adeyanju stated, “This is absolutely unacceptable. Demanding accountability is not a crime.”
As of the time of this report, the police have not released an official statement regarding the reason for the arrest.
