Falz Opens Up on Emotional Toll of #EndSARS Protest, Says Justice Is Rooted in Humanity

Nigerian rapper, actor, and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has opened up about the personal toll the 2020 #EndSARS protests took on him, describing it as one of the most intense and defining experiences of his life.

Speaking at the recent #WithChude Live event held at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos, Falz reflected on his involvement in the historic demonstrations against police brutality. He emphasised that he has no regrets about standing up for justice.

“That period was one of the craziest and toughest times of my life,” Falz said during the conversation. “But I don’t regret it at all. I was taught never to regret doing what I believe is right.”

He described the movement as a powerful moment of unity among Nigerian youths and stressed that his activism is not motivated by praise but by empathy and a deep sense of responsibility. “It’s not about doing it for anyone specifically. It’s about compassion. It’s about humanity,” he added.

Falz, the son of renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), credited his father for shaping his social consciousness and commitment to justice. Known for using music as a tool for advocacy, Falz notably paid tribute to victims of police violence in his song “Johnny,” which became an anthem during the protests.

Over the years, he has remained outspoken on issues of  governance, accountability, and citizens’ rights in Nigeria. His recent remarks reinforce his role not just as an entertainer but as a consistent voice for change, echoing the values of justice and civic responsibility that he continues to champion.
