Nigerian singer and rapper Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has publicly criticised Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) following the arrest of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

VDM was reportedly arrested by police at a GTBank branch in Abuja while accompanying his mother to resolve a complaint about unauthorised deductions from her account. The incident has sparked public outrage and renewed concerns over customer protection and institutional accountability within Nigeria’s banking sector.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Skales condemned the bank, calling it “the worst in Nigeria.” He also shared a personal story, revealing that his late mother experienced similar financial issues while banking with GTBank.

“GTB is a horrible bank… the worst bank in Nigeria,” he wrote. “I wish my late mom were alive to tell you what they did to her salary… how her money dey lost and I had to compensate her because she wouldn’t leave the job till retirement.”

Skales further lamented the growing dependence on outspoken individuals like VDM for justice and accountability in the country.

“It’s crazy what is going on in Nigeria… imagine where citizens can’t rely on the government but must turn to fellow citizens like VDM for help. God bless & protect him though.”

His remarks add to the rising public concern over the treatment of whistleblowers and digital activists, especially those who challenge powerful institutions.

Meanwhile, VDM’s legal team has confirmed efforts are underway to secure his release.
