EFCC Breaks Silence on VeryDarkMan’s Arrest, Cites Financial Crime Allegations and Ignored Invitations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially addressed the arrest of social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, clarifying that the move was tied to multiple financial crime allegations and his consistent failure to respond to formal invitations.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the anti-graft agency revealed that several petitions had been filed against Otse, prompting his invitation to appear before investigators. However, he reportedly ignored repeated summons sent through known addresses and communication channels, leading to his eventual arrest. The EFCC emphasised that a valid court order had been secured to detain him legally.
While acknowledging that Otse has made “unguarded attacks” against the agency in the past, the Commission stressed that his arrest was not influenced by those remarks. The EFCC also disclosed that administrative bail has already been granted, and Otse will be released once he meets the necessary conditions. The agency urged the public to avoid speculation and allow due process to take its course.
