In a display of solidarity and support, former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan has endorsed Nigeria’s current First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, ahead of the 2027 general elections, while firmly dismissing any intentions of returning to active politics.
Jonathan made the statement in Abuja during an award ceremony where she was recognized as the Women Icon Leader of the Year 2025 by Accolade Dynamics Limited. She used the occasion to underscore her full support for Senator Tinubu and highlighted the value of rotational leadership in promoting national unity and stability.
Reflecting on her personal relationship with Tinubu, Jonathan noted that their connection dates back to their time as wives of state governors and deputy governors. She described their bond as enduring and rooted in mutual respect and shared dedication to public service.
Addressing ongoing speculation about a potential political comeback, Jonathan put the rumors to rest. She reaffirmed her commitment to national unity and to supporting the current administration’s efforts.
