“I Am Igbo by Blood” — Davido Shuts Down Tribal Criticism with Bold Clapback

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has silenced tribal critics with a bold and unapologetic statement: “I am Igbo by blood.”

The exchange unfolded on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), after a user with the handle @Yakbel took aim at Davido’s visible closeness to the Igbo community. The user claimed that associating with Igbos would eventually backfire, accusing the ethnic group of being untrustworthy and impossible to satisfy. The post read in part:

“Davido just dey carry Ibo full body, until when dem betray am before e rest. Yoruba boy dey frolick with Ibos in 2025… You can never satisfy Ibos ooo.”

Davido wasted no time shutting it down, replying simply — and powerfully:

“Lol, I AM IGBO by blood.”

His response lit up the platform, drawing widespread praise from fans and fellow Nigerians who commended him for rejecting tribal division and standing up for unity.

Though Davido is widely known to be of Yoruba heritage — his father hails from Osun State — the singer has always embraced Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity, both in his music and personal relationships. His acknowledgment of Igbo roots adds another layer to his identity and sends a strong message about inclusion in a country often divided by ethnic lines.

Many see Davido’s reaction not just as a personal statement, but a broader call for national unity — a reminder that identity in Nigeria isn’t always black and white, and that pride in one’s heritage doesn’t have to come at the expense of others.

In a time when public figures are increasingly expected to take clear stances on social issues, Davido’s words struck a chord — a simple yet powerful message: we are more connected than we think.
