Nollywood star Mercy Johnson-Okojie has addressed growing concerns about her health after an old video resurfaced online, sparking widespread speculation that the actress was battling cancer.
The viral clip — taken from a past episode of her cooking and lifestyle show Mercy’s Menu — featured a candid conversation with veteran actress Joke Silva. In the episode, Mercy opened up about a previous health scare involving her thyroid, revealing that she had undergone surgery after doctors feared a tumour on her neck might be cancerous.
However, the snippet was shared out of context, leading many fans to believe she was currently battling cancer. The emotional misunderstanding prompted an outpouring of messages, prayers, and well-wishes from concerned followers.
On Tuesday, Mercy took to Instagram to clear the air in a heartfelt video:
“Thank you to all of you who have been calling and sending messages and prayers. I do appreciate it so much, but I do not have cancer.”
She went on to clarify that the viral video had been misleading due to poor editing:
“I said I had a cancer scare… I had swelling on my neck and my doctors were concerned. I had issues with my thyroid and underwent surgery. I’m perfectly fine.”
The actress also referenced the faint scar on her neck from the procedure as proof, but emphasized that she is now healthy and thriving.
Her reassurance brought relief to fans and colleagues alike, many of whom praised her for her openness and courage in addressing such a sensitive topic.
Mercy Johnson remains one of Nollywood’s most beloved figures, and her candid response has further cemented her reputation for grace, strength, and authenticity.
