Nigerian singer and songwriter Ric Hassani has shed light on the reasons why many artistes cancel their tours, explaining that such decisions are often driven by factors beyond their control.
In an interview with Hip TV on Thursday, the “Thunder Fire You” crooner stated that low ticket sales and complicated contractual obligations could be among the leading causes for scrapped concerts.
“I do not know why that happens,” Hassani said. “But a lot of artistes who cancel their tours are often dealing with multiple companies — from touring firms to management teams. Maybe it’s a bad contract somewhere, or it could be poor ticket sales.”
Hassani emphasized that while fans may assume the decision lies solely with the artist, large-scale tours usually involve many stakeholders, making the cancellation a multi-layered issue.
“This is our job, this is our career, and we sacrifice a lot to perform. It might not even be the artist’s decision. These high-level shows often involve a lot of people and logistics, so a cancellation could come from any direction,” he added.
His comments come amid growing discussions about transparency in the music industry, especially when major tour dates are suddenly pulled.
