Angel Smith Breaks Her Silence: “Calling Me a Lesbian Is Not the Insult You Think It Is”

In a country where societal norms often dictate the boundaries of personal expression, former Big Brother Naija housemate Angel Smith is once again challenging the status quo — this time, with unapologetic boldness and fierce independence.

The 2021 reality TV star, known for her frankness and strong personality, found herself at the centre of online speculation after a video surfaced showing her in an affectionate embrace with another woman. The clip, which quickly went viral, led to whispers and accusations about Angel’s sexuality, with many labelling her a lesbian.

But rather than shy away from the controversy, Angel met it head-on. Taking to her Snapchat, the 24-year-old fired back at critics in a series of candid posts that revealed not just her stance on the matter, but also a deeper reflection on society’s misplaced moral compass.

“Calling me a lesbian is not the gag you think it is, nor is it an insult,” she wrote. “Bad news for you all — my fine ass doesn’t see that as anything shameful.”

Angel, who has never been afraid to speak her truth, highlighted what she views as a double standard in public outrage. While conversations around abuse, sexual predators, and social injustice are often ignored, a harmless hug between two consenting adults becomes the subject of moral panic.

“You people did not come upon some secret thing,” she pointed out, addressing those who treated the video like a scandal. “I posted it myself, and I let my friends post it too. Why? Because this is my life. I’m an adult. I can do whatever I like.”

In an era where social media can amplify both admiration and condemnation in equal measure, Angel’s response reminds her audience that personal identity isn’t a community project — it’s a private journey, made public only by choice.

She didn’t stop there. “Did you guys know that just because you think something is bad doesn’t mean the other person shares that belief?” she asked. “Also, we’re all going to die one day, and your opinions will be nothing more than a whisper caught in the wind.”

Her words serve as a powerful reminder of the fleeting nature of online judgment and the resilience of those who refuse to be defined by it.

Whether you agree with her or not, Angel Smith has once again proven that she won’t be caged by societal expectations. In her world, self-expression is not a crime, it’s a right.
