Popular Nigerian comedian, Otaghware Otas Onodjayeke, better known as I Go Save, has voiced his displeasure over the increasing trend of public begging across the country.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the comedian lamented how begging has now become rampant in unexpected places such as airports, nightclubs, restrooms, restaurants, and recreational parks.
He acknowledged the tough economic situation many Nigerians are facing but expressed concern that the growing desperation is becoming overwhelming in public spaces. According to him, while it’s important to help those in need, there’s a need for moderation and dignity.
“The rate of begging in public places is becoming alarming,” he wrote. “I understand things are hard, but let’s calm down a bit. We’re all in the same country. Help who you can, but this trend is getting out of hand.”
His remarks have sparked conversations online, with many agreeing that while seeking help is not a crime, the increasing frequency and locations of such requests reflect deeper socio-economic issues.
