Veteran Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has finally broken his silence on his divorce from his wife of over a decade, Annie Macaulay-Idibia.
In an interview on the 234 Mzansi Podcast, hosted by media personality Nedu, the music icon revealed that he and Annie had both made efforts to make their marriage work, but eventually chose to part ways when it became clear that it was no longer sustainable.
2Baba, who married Annie in May 2012, announced their separation in early 2025. He also confirmed a new relationship with Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru, sparking widespread reactions on social media.
“I think both of us gave it our best. And why we’re not together today is not something I’m going to talk about publicly,” 2Baba said during the podcast. “She’s amazing. It just wasn’t working anymore.”
He emphasised that despite the public nature of their relationship, the reasons behind their separation remain private and should be respected.
“Only the people in the marriage truly know what they are feeling,” he added. “It’s always good to try to fix your marriage, but if it goes beyond that, no one should be pressured to stay.”
The 49-year-old singer urged people not to let societal expectations trap them in unhappy marriages, warning that many have died silently suffering in the name of keeping up appearances.
“Don’t let society dictate your feelings. This thing called ‘living in bondage’ is real. So many people have gone to their graves very sad because of it.”
In a more controversial part of the interview, 2Baba claimed that biologically, men are not wired to be sexually exclusive to one woman, even though they can choose to remain faithful.
“A man is not built to sexually be with one woman. His heart, love, and respect can be with one woman, but sexually, it is impossible for a man,” he said. “I’m not encouraging cheating, I’m just stating a biological fact. If we understand this, a lot of heartbreak and stress can be avoided.”
The singer’s remarks have since sparked heated debate online, with many weighing in on gender expectations, fidelity, and the complexities of modern relationships.
2Baba and Annie’s love story was once considered one of the most enduring in the Nigerian entertainment industry, with the actress standing by the singer through various public scandals and personal trials. Their separation marks the end of an era, but 2Baba insists it is a decision made in peace, with mutual understanding, and in the best interest of personal well-being.
