Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, may have stirred the political waters with subtle clues suggesting that his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, is considering a move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speculations about the governor’s defection began circulating weeks ago after he and Davido paid a private visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos. The closed-door meeting sparked conversations, with many interpreting it as a sign of political realignment.
Now, Davido appears to have added weight to those rumours through the lyrics of a newly released song titled “From Umbrella to Broom” a symbolic reference to the political shift from PDP, represented by the umbrella, to APC, represented by the broom.
In the track, Davido touches on pressing issues affecting the country and Osun State, including poor electricity supply, youth dissatisfaction, and the need for effective governance. He suggests that a change in political direction might be necessary to bring progress and relief to the people.
Some of the lyrics read:
“New broom go sweep better. Ẹtan abẹla si ìjọba wa. From umbrella to the broom. Adegbe adafa, alagbada alefa. Eyan marun, mefa, kilode ta n suffer? New broom go sweep better. Them tori us propaganda from January to December, we no gbadun NEPA. So all of our youths wan go America.”
Roughly translated, the message questions ongoing suffering and calls for change, suggesting that a new “broom”—a clear nod to the APC symbol—might offer better governance and solutions for the state’s challenges.
While there has been no official statement from Governor Adeleke or his camp confirming the defection, Davido’s lyrical message has sparked renewed debate among political watchers and citizens alike. Whether artistic expression or political signal, the song has undeniably intensified speculation surrounding Osun’s political future.
