Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has publicly apologised to his colleague, Afeez Abiodun, popularly known as Afeez Owo, for physically assaulting him on a movie set two decades ago.
Solade made the heartfelt apology during a recent episode of the Behind the Fame: African A-List podcast. Reflecting on the incident, he admitted that it occurred around 20 years ago during a film shoot on the outskirts of Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to Solade, tensions flared when Afeez, who served as the production manager on the set, falsely accused him of unspecified wrongdoing. The accusation triggered a strong emotional response, leading him to slap Afeez in the heat of the moment.
“Let me apologise to Afeez Abiodun. I slapped him once,” Solade said. “He was the production manager of a movie – we were filming in a remote area near Ibadan. After shooting, we returned to town, and he started making some accusations that upset me. I didn’t like that. The slap came suddenly, in the dark. It wasn’t planned. I regretted it immediately.”
He continued, “Afeez left the location the next morning without telling anyone, and when we woke up, he was gone. It’s been a long time—about 20 years. I’ve spoken to a few people about it before, but now I want to say it publicly: Afeez, I’m sorry. Mabinu simi(don’t be angry with me).”
Solade added that one of his struggles is dealing with perceived insults, which he admitted might be a flaw in his character. “I don’t like insults—that might be my weakness,” he confessed.
