Baba Fryo Speaks on 2Baba and Annie Idibia’s Failed Marriage, Claims Poor Management Led to Separation

Veteran Nigerian musician, Friday Igweh, popularly known as Baba Fryo, has weighed in on the recent separation between iconic singer 2Baba Innocent Idibia and his estranged wife, actress Annie Idibia. In a candid interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, the Dem Go Dey Pose crooner shared his perspective on what led to the breakdown of their marriage.

Baba Fryo, who has been in the entertainment industry for decades, criticised the couple for not managing their relationship properly. According to him, their shared lifestyle as entertainers may have contributed to the strain in their union.

“2Face and his wife didn’t manage themselves well. They are both in the spotlight—he’s a musician, and she’s an actress. That kind of pressure requires balance and understanding,” Fryo explained.

He emphasised that in a marriage, especially one involving fame and temptation, the woman often plays a key role in keeping the man grounded. He argued that a wife should be a stabilising force, particularly when a husband is vulnerable to negative habits like excessive drinking.

“In marriage, when a couple is out, the woman has to look out for the man. If he’s drinking too much, she should step in and calm him. But if you marry a woman who drinks just as much, then who’s going to bring who home when both are intoxicated?” he said.

Fryo claimed that such dynamics can cause insecurity in a relationship, pushing a man to seek stability elsewhere. However, he was quick to clarify that he wasn’t necessarily endorsing 2Baba’s new relationship with Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawuru, whom the singer introduced as his new partner following the separation announcement in January.

“Even Natasha, the new lover, is not necessarily better,” Fryo noted. “I’ve known her since she was three years old. Her father, Desmond, was my friend. I carried her on my lap as a child.”

The singer’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with many debating the gender roles and expectations he highlighted in his commentary. While some agreed with his views on responsibility in marriage, others felt that he placed an unfair burden on women.

2Baba and Annie’s separation remains one of the most talked-about celebrity breakups of the year, and Baba Fryo’s comments have added yet another layer to the ongoing public conversation about love, fame, and the pressures of maintaining a high-profile relationship.
