Former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) housemate, Uriel Oputa, has spoken candidly about the harsh realities of dating and societal expectations facing women in Nigeria.
In a recent episode of the ‘Outside the Box’ podcast, Uriel shared her struggles with finding a serious partner, stating that dating a Nigerian man has become increasingly difficult due to their complicated nature.
“It is hard to date a Nigerian man. I don’t understand why they’re so complicated,” she said.
The reality TV star revealed that she once felt desperate to get married, but the relationship she ended up in turned out to be a painful experience.
“Two years ago, I was desperate to get married, and then I met somebody, and that guy showed me pepper, crocodile pepper.”
Uriel also addressed the issue of age-shaming, noting that many Nigerian women in their 30s and 40s are unfairly made to feel like they are no longer desirable.
“Age shaming is such a real thing in Nigeria. A lot of women in their 30s and 40s feel like they are expired milk,” she lamented.
She criticised the mindset among some Nigerian men who constantly seek out “something better,” making it difficult for women to find genuine connections.
“It’s hard to find a decent man in Nigeria, and it boils down to the fact that we have a culture of ‘there’s always something better.’ There’s nothing better,” Uriel concluded.
