The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has placed Nollywood actress and producer Shirley Igwe on indefinite suspension following a violent incident on a movie set in Lagos.
According to Naija News, the actress was involved in a physical altercation with a crew member, during which she allegedly slapped the individual during a disagreement on set.
After conducting a preliminary investigation, the AGN leadership condemned Igwe’s actions, describing them as unprofessional and contrary to the ethical standards expected of members. The Guild warned that such behaviour could tarnish the industry’s image.
In an official letter dated July 21 and signed by AGN President Emeka Rollas, the guild stated:
“Following our preliminary investigation into the allegation of violence levelled against actress Shirley Igwe on a film set in Lagos, the National Executive Council has resolved to place her on an indefinite suspension.
This suspension is due to her professional misconduct, violence, and indiscipline—actions capable of discrediting the acting profession. These offences contravene the actors’ code of conduct and are punishable by constitutional provisions. Members are hereby directed to refrain from participating in any film production involving her.”
The AGN emphasised that the suspension will remain in effect until further notice, and members are expected to comply with the directive.
