Nigerian singer Omah Lay and his longtime manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, have officially ended their professional relationship. The news was confirmed on Friday through a tweet shared by Awoniyi, who announced he would no longer be managing the music star.
While Awoniyi stated that the decision marks the end of their working relationship, he emphasised that their friendship and mutual support remain intact. “No longer managing Omah Lay, but always rooting for him,” he wrote.
Shortly after the announcement, Omah Lay responded with a heartfelt message, acknowledging Awoniyi’s significant role in his rise and expressing deep appreciation for his support over the years.
However, the cordial tone shifted when fellow artist Kaestyle reacted with a sarcastic remark, implying that Awoniyi had been fired and was using social media to control the narrative.
In response, Awoniyi issued a strongly worded clarification, revealing that his management role was centred on helping Omah Lay escape an exploitative contract. He claimed that with that mission accomplished, his job was done.
“I agreed to manage Omah to get him out of the very slave deal that you signed,” he said. “Now he is out, I also am out. You, on the other hand, are still a slave. If you know me, you know I’ve always been for the artist.”
He further disclosed that Omah Lay now owns his masters and operates independently under his own company, Boy Alone. “Omah is exceptional and with Boy Alone now a fully established company, the journey moves forward on his own terms,” he added. “The best part? He now owns his masters. I hope the delay now makes sense. Job done
The development has sparked conversation online, with many applauding Awoniyi’s advocacy for artist rights and transparency within the music industry.
