Afrobeats singer Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, popularly known as Oxlade, has revealed that fellow artiste Adedamola Oyinlola Adefolahan, professionally known as Fireboy DML, played a significant role in refining his music career.

Speaking during a recent livestream with content creator Shank Comics, the “Away” crooner said Fireboy’s mentorship in the early stage of his career helped him transition from making basic recordings to producing well-structured and polished songs.

“When it comes to pen game, nobody is touching him (Fireboy). I learnt how to compose music from Fireboy properly. He was miles ahead,” Oxlade stated.

He added that Fireboy’s guidance provided a strong foundation before he fully developed his style.

“He was part of my transition into making proper music before I started doing my own thing. His putting me on was life-changing,” Oxlade said.

Oxlade and Fireboy DML are now among Nigeria’s leading Afrobeats acts, with both enjoying international recognition for their music.
