When Afrobeats megastar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, and his long-time love, Chioma Avril Rowland, finally said “I do” at their white wedding in Miami, Florida, it wasn’t just another celebrity event; it was the grand finale of a love story the world has watched unfold for nearly a decade.
A Lavish Prelude to Forever
In true superstar fashion, the celebrations began days before the main event. The couple hosted a vibrant Havana-themed pre-wedding party, bringing together close friends, family, and music industry heavyweights. Chioma stunned in a chic white dress, while Davido exuded charm in his stylish attire.
The guest list was a who’s who of Afrobeats royalty. Teniola Apata, Adekunle Gold, and Zlatan Ibile were spotted among others, enjoying the Miami night. Viral clips flooded social media, showing Zlatan and Davido sharing jokes, Teni dancing joyfully, and Adekunle Gold in high spirits.
Davido, known for his flair for grand gestures, revealed that preparations for the wedding had already cost a staggering $3.7 million in cash. “We’ve spent $3.7 million in cash. So, you should know what we are doing. It’s going to be crazy,” he said in a clip shared online by Teni.
The Big Day in Miami
When the wedding day arrived, it was every bit of glamour fans had anticipated. With Davido in a brown suit and Chioma looking dazzling in her white wedding gown, surrounded by friends, family, and industry colleagues, Davido and Chioma exchanged heartfelt vows.
Visibly emotional, Davido described Chioma as “my love, my peace, my home.” Speaking from the heart, he told her:
“I have been on many stages, but this is the most nervous I have ever been. You came into my life quietly and became the loudest and most beautiful part of it. You saw the real me the me the world doesn’t see and you still chose me.”
Chioma, popularly known as Chef Chi, spoke equally fondly of her husband, highlighting his unwavering support for her personal dreams. In an interview with Noire TV, she revealed:
“David cares a lot about my dreams. I’ve faced a lot of challenges over time, but he would always ask me, ‘Chi, apart from all of this, what do you actually want to do?’ He really cares about my personal growth.”
The Miami wedding followed their traditional wedding in Lagos in June 2024 and their court wedding in March 2023, completing a journey that began many years earlier.
How It All Began
Davido and Chioma met while studying at Babcock University. Chioma, a quiet and reserved culinary arts enthusiast, captured the heart of the then-rising star. Their relationship became public in 2018 when Davido openly referred to her as the “love of his life” and even dedicated his hit song “Assurance” to her, complete with a luxury Porsche as a gift.
Over the years, their love story was filled with public displays of affection, romantic getaways, and collaborations, with Chioma occasionally featuring in Davido’s music videos.
A Tragic Loss
The couple’s journey, however, was not without heartbreak. In October 2022, they suffered the devastating loss of their first child, three-year-old Ifeanyi, who tragically drowned in a swimming pool at their Lagos home. The tragedy sent shockwaves through Nigeria and the global Afrobeats community. Davido and Chioma took an extended break from public life, leaning on each other for strength.
When they re-emerged months later, their bond appeared stronger than ever, a testament to their resilience and commitment to each other.
A Love Story for the Ages
From their court wedding to their grand traditional ceremony in Lagos, and now their dazzling Miami white wedding, Davido and Chioma’s union has been marked by passion, style, and an unshakable connection.
With a diamond-encrusted $300,000 Richard Mille gifted to Chioma on their wedding day, the second such luxury watch he has given her, and a multi-million dollar celebration, Davido has once again proved that when it comes to love, he spares no expense.
Yet beyond the luxury and the limelight lies the true essence of their story: a couple who have faced triumphs and trials, loss and love, and emerged hand in hand, ready for the next chapter together.
