The Lagos State Government has reportedly demanded that TikTok influencer Peller pay N36 million in income tax, a sum he says is far beyond his means.
Peller, who gained fame only last year, disclosed the tax demand during a live chat with singer Peruzzi. He said the state’s tax agency presented him with the bill despite his relatively recent rise to prominence and modest earnings.
“I just came into the limelight last year, and they’re telling me to pay N36 million. I don’t have that kind of money,” Peller complained.
Peruzzi, however, reminded him that paying taxes is a legal duty for every Nigerian. Without disclosing his exact figure, the Majesty crooner claimed his own annual tax payment exceeds the bill given to Peller.
“Why haven’t you paid your taxes? Do you know you’re supposed to pay as a Nigerian? The amount they gave you is even less than what I pay,” Peruzzi said, urging him to settle the debt quickly to avoid legal trouble, including possible jail time.
Peller argued that the tax was excessive and unfair, stressing that the government had never supported his TikTok career. He believes he was targeted because he openly flaunts his wealth and earnings online.
While Peruzzi suggested negotiating for more time to pay, Peller maintained that most of his income comes from social media platforms not from Nigeria.
