Media personality and beauty entrepreneur Toke Makinwa has clarified that, contrary to public perception, she does not hate men, describing herself instead as a “hopeless romantic.”
The 40-year-old made the revelation shortly after announcing that she is expecting her first child. She explained that she had prayed to become a mother before turning 40 and was overjoyed to conceive in December, just weeks after her milestone birthday in November.
Makinwa also disclosed that she had silently battled depression, a struggle she had never shared publicly until now.
“The popular belief out there is that I bash men or hate them. That has never been the truth. I’m a hopeless romantic,” she said. “People didn’t know I was depressed. Till now, no one knew why I held that thanksgiving service, and I’ve never spoken about it until this moment. At the start, I told God I wanted to turn 40 as a mum. I turned 40 in November, and He did it in December. He didn’t fail—God is never late. He just didn’t do it in the way I expected.”
