Nollywood actress, Beverly Osu, has revealed that she struggled with depression for three months after working on the Netflix original film Òlòtūré.
Osu explained that her approach to acting, which involves deeply immersing herself into roles, left her mentally shaken after the project. According to her, fully embodying characters often makes it difficult to detach from them once filming is over.
“What we are is what they call method actors. I can’t just read a script, execute it, and then in two days become another person. It takes a lot of mental detox before I can enter into another character,” she said.
Speaking further, she disclosed that the aftermath of Òlòtūré triggered an identity crisis. “When I shot Òlòtūré and left the set, I was depressed for three months because of an identity crisis. I was trying to search and piece together fragments of Beverly in order to bring myself back,” she added.
The actress, who started her career as a model before venturing into Nollywood, said her experiences have heightened her passion for mental health advocacy. She noted that mental well-being is often overlooked, which inspired her to begin speaking out and encouraging others to prioritise it.
