Award-winning Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has revealed that one of her tattoos carries a deeply personal story, one born out of heartbreak.
In a recent interview, Tiwa shared how a painful breakup pushed her to turn to body art as a form of release. Unlike a typical tattoo session in a public studio, she flew in an artist from Los Angeles to Lagos and had the work done privately in her bedroom. She explained that she wanted complete solitude during such an emotional moment.
“I didn’t want anyone to see me like that,” she recalled, describing the experience as both raw and deeply personal. The process was intense, physically and emotionally. “There was blood everywhere,” she said, adding that even the tattoo artist was stunned and asked, ‘Is that going to come off?’
For Tiwa, however, the tattoo was never just a design. It symbolised the pain she had endured in what she described as a toxic, “crazy” relationship that made the last two years of her life incredibly difficult.
Now on the other side of that chapter, Tiwa reflected with gratitude and strength. “I’m so happy I’m out of that relationship,” she said with a smile.
Her story reveals a vulnerable side of the superstar that fans rarely see. Beyond the glitz of fame and music, it is about healing, survival, and reclaiming her own narrative. While tattoos often serve as style statements, for Tiwa Savage, this one is a lasting reminder of resilience and growth.
