Nollywood Actress Wunmi Toriola Hospitalised After Online Backlash

Nollywood star Wunmi Toriola has been hospitalized following a wave of online criticism over her reaction to comments made by veteran actor and director Afeez Owo.

Afeez Owo, who is married to actress Mide Martins, had recently spoken about Toriola’s character in a movie during an interview. He also touched on their once close relationship, recalling how they used to write scripts and produce films together in her early career, before things turned sour.

Toriola, however, publicly disagreed with his remarks, a move that sparked widespread backlash from fans and social media users who sided with Afeez.

On Thursday morning, the actress revealed that the intense pressure from the online attacks took a toll on her health, leading to her hospital admission. Sharing a photo from her hospital bed, she linked her health scare to the stress of Internet trolling.

She wrote:
“Internet dragging and ICU are siblings. I have heard you all, will do better next time. Wish me quick recovery.”

The actress also assured her followers that she has taken the experience as a lesson and promised to approach such issues differently in the future.
