Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has urged that Tems be recognised in the Afrobeats “Big 3” conversation, which traditionally highlights Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.
In a recent interview, Savage argued that Tems’ achievements put her on the same level as the top stars in the genre. She highlighted Tems’ Grammy win, Billboard Hot 100 entry, and collaborations with international artists as evidence of her global impact.
According to Savage, the “Big 3” narrative often sidelines female artists, despite their significant contributions. She stressed that Tems’ success proves the conversation should no longer be restricted to male singers alone.
“The growth of Afrobeats cannot be fully told without acknowledging Tems’ role in its worldwide reach,” she said, adding: “It’s unfair to discuss the Big 3 without mentioning someone like Tems.”
