Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa, husband of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, has reflected on her career path and the choices she made after winning Nigerian Idol in 2012.
The clergyman recalled that after her victory, Mercy had several opportunities to pursue a secular music career with the fame she gained, but she chose to remain in gospel music. According to him, that decision led to four years of waiting before she began to fully experience the rewards of her choice.
His reflection came after Mercy Chinwo recently surpassed 200 million streams on Spotify, a milestone Pastor Blessed described as proof that her journey was guided by obedience and trust in God.
In an Instagram post, he explained that although the waiting period might have seemed like a delay, it was not wasted, as her growth in gospel music is a testament to patience and faith.
Encouraging people to remain steadfast, he noted that choosing God’s way may sometimes appear to be a slower path, but it always leads to fulfilment.
Quoting scripture, he wrote:
“In 2012, when she won Nigerian Idol, she had every chance to go secular. The fame was right there. But she chose obedience over compromise, and that decision cost her 4 years of waiting. It looked like a delay, but it wasn’t wasted. Today, we see the reward of that obedience.”
He added that her new album, In His Will, is further proof that God’s plan always prevails, urging fans to keep streaming and allow the songs to bless them.
