Music executive Ubi Franklin has weighed in on why it might be difficult for Nigeria’s Afrobeats heavyweights Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy to work together on a collaboration.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, the talent manager described the trio as the “Big 3” of the music industry, noting that their positions make them more like rivals than collaborators.
Drawing parallels with the rivalry among Nigeria’s leading banks, Franklin explained that competition exists in every industry, and the music scene is no different.
He, however, stressed that the perceived beef between the stars is not personal, revealing that despite his close relationship with Davido, he has never heard the singer speak ill of Wizkid or Burna Boy.
“It would be difficult for Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy to come together. I will speak for Davido, I have never heard him once say something ill about Wizkid or Burna Boy. And I’m sure it’s the same for them. But the environment [industry] they are in will make it difficult for them to work together.
It’s like the rivalry between the top banks in Nigeria. In every industry, there is the Big 3,” Franklin stated.
