Nigerian singer Euphemia Ekumah, popularly known as GoodGirl LA, has broken her silence, revealing the emotional turmoil and personal sacrifices she endured during a prolonged battle with depression.
In a heartfelt post shared via her X (formerly Twitter) account, the “Bless Me” crooner spoke candidly about her journey through isolation, inner conflict, and the immense pressure of navigating the music industry without compromising her values.
The 28-year-old explained that during her time away from the spotlight, she was grappling with depression — a period that not only challenged her mentally but also reshaped her understanding of purpose, self-worth, and what truly matters.
“I had periods of unavoidable isolation and just shit so I charged it,” she wrote. “I focused on self-mastery and transmutation, all the while saying no to certain opportunities that nggas would kill for because I stand for something.”
According to GoodGirl LA, despite being offered career-boosting deals, she turned them down to preserve her artistic integrity, refusing to “sell her soul” for clout or fame. Her decisions, however, came at a steep emotional price.
“People called me crazy. My own friends started looking down on me. They shunned me. Even my parents called me a failure,” she revealed.
Rather than break her, the experience deepened her commitment to her values and redirected her focus to what she calls her core mission— creating music that heals and connects with people.
“It changed my view on what’s really important. I’ve seen how the world treats a young girl that’s trying to achieve greatness. The cheers and boos aren’t what any of this is about. It’s really all about art, touching my Gs and the world.”
